In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the city of St. Petersburg recently began the process of updating its ADA Self Evaluation and Transition Plan to ensure that its public facilities, services and programs are accessible to people with disabilities. Public input is the most important part of this process and everyone can participate by completing a brief Questionnaire (only 13-items) or joining us at one of two Public Input meetings: on Tuesdays, April 28 and May 19, 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Petersburg City Hall, 175 Fifth Street North.
The public is encouraged to offer input and recommendations in any of the following ways:
1. Download a PDF of the Public Input Questionnaire, available on the city's website at http://www.stpete.org/capi/index.asp
2. Request a copy of the Questionnaire by calling 727-893-7345 or stop by the Human Resources Department/Community Affairs, Municipal Services Complex, at One 4th Street North, 3rd Floor, St. Petersburg, FL 33701. Once complete, you can return it via e-mail to Lendel.Bright@stpete.org; or Fax to 727-551-3247; by US Mail or hand delivered to the address above.
3. The questionnaires will also be used during person to person contact by members of the city's Committee to Advocate for Persons with Impairments (CAPI) at various city-owned sites.
4. Attend one or both Public Input meetings, to be held on Tuesdays, April 28 and May 19, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room 100 at City Hall, 175 Fifth Street North, in downtown St. Petersburg.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law mandating equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities that prohibits discrimination in access to public facilities, services and programs. The city's original ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan was completed in 1992. Since then, the city has experienced significant changes in population, physical size, streets, sidewalks and curb cuts, as well as added city facilities, services and programs.
The city of St. Petersburg complies with the ADA and upon request, will provide written materials in appropriate alternative formats, as well as disability-related modification or accommodation, including auxiliary aids or services, to enable individuals with disabilities to participate in public meetings. If auxiliary aids or services are required for individuals with disabilities, please contact the city's ADA Coordinator Lendel Bright at lendel.bright@stpete.org or 727-893-7229. Such requests should be made a minimum of three full working days prior to the meeting to ensure the availability of these services.
